These guidelines were designed to assist health-care providers, especially physicians and nurses, in the prevention, management, and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases in Canada. The guidelines are a response to changes in practice since 1995, based on a literature review and clinical experience, and reviewed and endorsed by various medical associations. The format is designed for easy reference, and blue shaded areas mark issues that may require a health-care provider to seek the advice of more experienced colleagues.
