This guide is intended for technical teams carrying out the sampling work involved in sediment characterization studies, and is aimed at standardizing sample collection procedures and documentation. It deals with field-related aspects of sampling and the preparation of sediment and pore water samples, and looks at conducting a sampling campaign as well as quality control and health and safety in the field. Subsequent chapters address sampling methods, handling samples, field observations and measurements, and sample preservation methods.
