Quantitive assessment of surface water at risk due to acidification in eastern Canada / by R. G. Hélie et al.  : En40-447/1993

This publication presents the results of a pilot study in which remote sensing was used to predict the effects of acid rain on surface water. This information helped to develop a quantitative database of water bodies in eastern Canada, where acidification is the highest in Canada. The study also established an automated technique for gathering data by using full-scene Landsat Thematic Mapper (TM) digital data.

Note(s) "Remote sensing was examined as a means of generating a digital counts and measures data base for surface water and wetlands in a pilot study in three areas of eastern Canada.... Following the pilot study, the image processing methodology was adjusted and remote sensing was used to develop a quantitative data base of water bodies in eastern Canada.... Selected results of this quantitative assessment are presented in this report."--Introduction.
