Canadian experience in gender mainstreaming : SW21-97/2002
This paper outlines the Government of Canada’s experience with gender mainstreaming, that is, making policy decisions based on analyses of the effects on men and women respectively. The paper examines the policy environment and institutional infrastructure necessary for gender-based analysis (GBA); discusses guidelines and tools developed by government organizations to assist with GBA; notes partnerships with non-governmental organizations; presents case studies of the application of GBA for two issues; and looks at challenges and future directions.
