This discussion paper examines the importance of Indigenous legal traditions for Indigenous peoples and the place of Indigenous laws in Canada. It presents an overview of the status to Indigenous laws in Canada and discusses reasons for and issues related to revitalizing Indigenous legal traditions. The paper also proposes some ways Canada could enhance the place of Indigenous legal traditions. Discussion questions encourage readers to explore the topics presented.
