520 |aThe results of this research project show heat pump water heaters (HPWHs) can offer, depending on the application and utility costs, a cost-effective alternative to conventional hot water heating systems. This will provide consumers and builders with more choice with respect to water heating options. However, more information on equipment purchase and installation costs, operating and maintenance costs, and life-cycle costs would be needed to more fully understand the relative costs and benefits of HPWHs in comparison with more conventional forms of water heaters.
