Management plan for the woodland vole (Microtus pinetorum) in Canada . : En3-5/62-2015E-PDF

Little is known about the biology, ecology, distribution, population trends, and threats of the Woodland Vole in Canada. Intolerance to cold temperatures has been identified as a limiting factor for Woodland Voles. Current threats are thought to include: urban development, agricultural intensification, and forest harvesting. The objective of this management plan is to maintain, and where feasible increase, its current distribution in Canada through the maintenance of habitat and reduction of threats and, where possible improve knowledge on distribution and biological needs (e.g. habitat requirements) of the species in Canada. Broad strategies to help achieve this management objective are outlined in Section 6.2 of this document and the conservation measures and implementation schedule are presented in Section 6.3. Conservation of the Woodland Vole is also likely to benefit the environment, including a number of species at risk in Ontario and Quebec (Appendix A).
