Relative fishing efficiency for witch flounder of vessels and gears used in the August and September bottom-trawl surveys in the Gulf of St. Lawrence / Douglas P. Swain, Gloria A. Poirier and Rod Morin. : Fs70-1/1998-03E-PDF
The purpose of this report is to test for differences between fishing vessels and gears in fishing efficiency for witch flounder after adjusting for diurnal variation in their catchability. Two comparative fishing experiments are analyzed: a 1992 experiment conducted in the southern Gulf of St. Lawrence between the vessels Lady Hammond and Alfred Needler, both using a Western IIA trawl, and a 1990 experiment conducted in the northern Gulf between the Lady Hammond using a Western IIA trawl and the Alfred Needler using a URI trawl. Fishing efficiency was estimated using generalized linear models, assuming a Poisson error distribution.
