This report demonstrates the continuing progress being made by several provinces to improve cancer registration procedures, and thereby provide a more accurate picture of cancer patterns across Canada. Cancer incidence data, the principal type of data included in this report, are based on reports from provincial and territorial cancer registries. Data on cancer deaths taken from national mortality data, and data on hospital separations due to cancer, are also presented in formats which facilitate comparisons with the cancer incidence data. Taken together, these data describe the extent of cancer in Canada, indicate the different types of cancer that occur, and show how cancer patterns vary by province, age and sex.
