pH of drinking water : document for public comment / prepared by the Federal-Provincial-Territorial Committee on Drinking Water. : H144-32/2015E-PDF
""The Federal-Provincial-Territorial Committee on Drinking Water (CDW) has assessed the available information on pH with the intent of updating its drinking water guideline. The purpose of this consultation is to solicit comments on the proposed guideline and on the approach used for its development. The existing guideline for pH, established in 1979, recommended an acceptable range based primarily on minimizing corrosion. The guideline was based on the knowledge and understanding of corrosion at the time of development. Since that time, the knowledge base of corrosion control has dramatically advanced and improved. This updated document recognizes this new science and widens the range of acceptable pH to allow systems to determine the most appropriate level for their specific water quality and treatment processes, while minimizing the release of metals that could affect human health throughout the distribution system. The CDW has requested that this document be made available to the public and open for comment. Comments are appreciated, with accompanying rationale, where required"--Purpose of consultation, p. 1.
