The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) publishes fact sheets to inform the public of current events and issues related to the use of nuclear energy and materials. The information provided is meant to summarize facts and figures and answer basic questions pertaining to a particular topic in an easy to read format. The topic of this fact sheet is the licensing of geological repositories intended to provide for long-term management of radioactive wastes, usually at a depth of several hundred meters or more below the surfurace in a stable rock formation.
