"This compendium provides recent information on the performance and funding of research and development (R&D) in Canada. For federal, provincial and territorial governments, there is also information on related scientific activities (RSA). In the compendium, science and technology (S&T) is the sum of R&D and RSA. The compendium consists of Volume 19 of Science Statistics (Catalogue 88-001). It is in Science Statistics that the results of the R&D and S&T surveys of Statistics Canada are first released. More detail appears in the annual publications, Industrial Research and Development (Catalogue 88-202-XPB) and Federal Scientific Activities (Catalogue 88-204-XPB)." -- Intro.
