520 |aThis study examines the application of Markov chain models to the forecasting of two aspects of industrial activity: the relocations of manufacturing establishments, and their growth as measured by a number of employees. The Province of Ontario was chosen as a pilot study area which would provide an adequate and manageable volume of data. The modelling is based on data, spanning the period 1961 - 65, derived from the Census of Manufactures, an annual survey made by Statistics Canada. A further purpose of the study is to explore techniques of improving the accuracy of Markov chain models which could be helpful in this and similar contexts.
