"Since winter wheat ripens earlier than spring wheat, it helps to spread out the harvesting operations and if drought occurs in mid-summer, it will be further advanced and thus escape serious injury. It may be useful in the control of weeds and there is evidence to show that it is useful in checking soil drifting. Where winter wheat can be grown successfully, it can he expected to outyield spring wheat. ... The principal varieties, Kharkov, Yogo, Turkey Red and Jones Fife are described. Land preparation, methods of seeding, rates and dates of seeding are given from experience gained at the Dominion Experimental Station, Lethbridge, over a long period of years.
