Towards sustainable land use : a strategy / by Edward W. Manning. : En73-4/47E-PDF

"This working paper is a synthesis of concerns with respect to the use of land in Canada. Within the broader context of the goal of sustained productivity of Canada's land base, current land use issues are presented and an evaluation is proposed with respect to current research and response to these. A strategy for issue-powered research is presented, with key steps identified which would lead to better long-term land use planning and management. While Canada has a good record of land inventory, many major gaps exist in the mechanisms to ensure that this information is best utilised in the decision process for land use and management. This paper suggests key research and institutional activities which are required if sustainability of the land resource base is to be made an important factor in the decision process."--Abstract, p. iii..
