The Supreme Court of Canada . : JU5-26/2013E-PDF

"The Supreme Court is Canada’s final court of appeal. It reviews decisions from the provincial and territorial appellate courts, as well as from the Federal Court of Appeal and the Court Martial Appeal Court of Canada. In some cases, a party will have the automatic right to have an appeal heard by the Court. However, in most cases, appeals are heard by the Court only if permission or leave to appeal is granted. The Court will grant such leave if a question of public importance is involved or if there is an important issue of law (or an issue of both law and fact) that warrants consideration by the Court. The Court considers an average of between 500-600 applications for leave to appeal each year”--p. [2].
