“The study's general goals are (1) to review the history and current status of the relationships between Aboriginal peoples and the Province of British Columbia, and (2) to assess the manner and extent to which actions or inaction of the provincial government have impeded or enhanced the realization of self-government in Aboriginal communities. The historical review covers the period from contact in 1774 to 1986, with the greatest emphasis upon the period since the Second World War. For the current period, the relationship is examined in terms of provincial policy and program development in the major provincial ministries. The effects of the province's actions on self-government of both land-based First Nations and urban Aboriginal communities are assessed"--Executive summary, p. [4].
