Rain penetration control : applying current knowledge / [prepared by Morrison Hershfield Limited]. : NH18-1/387-1999E-PDF

“This document focuses primarily on rain penetration control in walls and windows. Other wetting mechanisms include condensation and exposure to ground water. Moisture can be removed from a building assembly through drainage, by diffusion or venting (convective air change) to a drier indoor or outdoor environment. Most building assemblies and materials have some tolerance for infrequent and short duration wetting. Some infrequent passage of water to the inside is a minor inconvenience rather than a disaster. Determining how much effort and expense can be justified to minimize water penetration or evaluating what assembly types are appropriate for a particular building application and location is an exercise in judgment and risk management"--Executive summary, p. i.
