520 |a“The Lewis’s Woodpecker was assessed as Threatened in 2010 by the Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada (COSEWIC) as a result of a small population size, ongoing evidence of population declines (both in Canada and rangewide), and persistent threats to the species’ habitat. The species was listed as Threatened under Schedule 1 of the Species at Risk Act (SARA) in 2012. The population and distribution objective is to maintain or increase the regional populations and the distribution of Lewis’s Woodpeckers within Canada, with the exception of the extirpated Georgia Depression population, where recovery is not currently considered feasible. The broad strategies to be taken to address the threats to the survival and recovery of the species are presented in Section 6.2, Strategic Direction for Recovery”--Executive summary, p. iv.
