"Canada possesses the world's largest area of formerly glaciated terrain and displays a wide variety of glacial and related landforms. Before discussing and illustrating some of these features it is appropriate to consider the geological events that caused them, during what is referred to as the "Great Ice Age". This part of the Earth's 4.5 billion year history is referred to as the Pleistocene Epoch or Quaternary Period and represents only the last 1.8 to perhaps 2.7 million years."--Introduction.
