520 |a"Religious denominations in Canada, the census reveals, are man and diverse. Those which command the allegiance of the bulk of the population, however, are relatively few. The growth, since 1871, of the principal (i.e. the numerically strongest) religious denominations, which together comprise about 95 per cent of the total, is shown in statement I. ... During the seventy-year period 1871-1941, the principal religious denominations as a whole increased much less proportinately than did the smaller denominations as a whole (209.3 as against 811.7 per cent). Nevertheless, the rapid expansion of some of the smaller denominations has only slightly modified Canada's basic religious denominationsl structure"--p. 2-7.
