"The majority of people aged 15 to 64 are active in the labour market, and thereby contribute to Canada’s economy and the well-being of its population. Changes in the size of the population aged 15 to 64, its demographic weight in the national population and its composition by age and sex are of particular interest to private companies and different levels of government, whose workforce comes from this age group. The labour force is one of the key factors, along with productivity, in Canada’s gross domestic product and economic growth"--Introduction, p. 1.
