Projected responses of selected limnological variables for the freshwater lakes of the Nelson and Great Lakes-St Lawrence drainages to forecast changes in climate conditions during the 21st century /... : Fs97-4/3117E-PDF

"To better understand the impact of climate change on Canadian lakes and fish species, the Canadian Lake Assessment Model (CLAM) was used to forecast changes in lake ice phenology and the timing and hatching success of seven fish species at the secondary watershed level in the St. Lawrence and the Nelson River drainage. Our projections were based on four global climate models (GCMs) under two alternate greenhouse gas emission scenarios. Three future time periods (2011-2040, 2041-2070, 2071-2100) were considered and compared with the averaged baseline climate conditions from 1971-2000. This report mainly focused on the 2041-2070 period under the A2 emission scenario. The projections made in this report should provide a useful tool in the management and risk-assessment of two important Canadian watersheds"--Abstract, p. iv.
