"In 1970 the Geological Survey of Canada published the results of a symposium on "Basins and Geosynclines of the Canadian Shield'' (GSC Paper 70-40). The studies on which this symposium was based were largely of a reconnaissance nature but provided the foundation upon which Precambrian geologists have been able to establish local, regional, and continental frameworks"--Introduction.
