520 |a"This study was conducted to evaluate the condition of the streams of the Lower Fraser Valley. The Wild, Threatened, Endangered and Lost Streams of the Lower Fraser Valley - Summary Report provides a classification that indicates the health of a stream, based on a number of criteria. The watersheds in the Lower Fraser Valley (LFV) have been subjected to intense urban and rural development pressures for many decades. The great majority of pre-settlement streams in the Vancouver area have been buried or culverted, and many are effectively lost (Lost Streams map poster, DFO, 1995). This report reviews the condition of many of the remaining streams in the Lower Fraser Valley, and classifies them as lost, endangered, threatened, or wild, based on the number and types of impacts on the stream, including channelization, water diversion, removal or alteration of riparian vegetation, and pollution. This information can be used at a strategic level when determining needs for habitat protection and restoration for endangered and threatened streams which still have the potential to produce viable populations of salmon and other species of fish"--Preface.
