5203 |a"Occupants in residential houses are occasionally disturbed by the vibrations in wooden floors resulting from human activities. The recently revised allowable joist spans in the National Building Code of Canada incorporate empirical allowance for vibrational serviceability and are expected to reduce the number of unsatisfactory wooden floors. Further reduction can be achieved by adopting construction details which minimize vibration levels in addition to using appropriate spans. This project was undertaken to investigate how changes in certain construction details can affect vibrational performance of wooden floors"--Abstract.
