"Data surrounding the types of crimes that occur against children, the relationship between the perpetrator and the victim, and the impact of the crimes on the victims' health and development, particulary among child victims, are not routinely collected and are poorly understood. The primary purpose of this study, therefore, was to gain further insight into: 1) the characteristics of a populations of federal offenders who have committed a crime against a child, and 2) the characteristics of child victims identified from a random sample of these offenders."--Executive summary, p. iii.
