It includes a brief discussion of the methodology and assumptions, the choice of projection series and an analysis of the results, highlighting the major emerging demographic trends. These projections have been developed by a component approach, using mainly the data on population, births and deaths from the Indian Register, which provides the historical and most up-to-date demographic data on registered Indians. They are based on the estimated population by age and sex, as of December 31, 1981, adjusted for late reporting of vital events.
