5203 |a"The Canadian Labour Force Survey (LFS) is a monthly survey of 52,300 households. It is used to derive the estimates necessary to monitor labour market conditions in the ten provinces of Canada. The purpose of this paper is to describe the estimation methodology used to derive these estimates. In doing so, the intent is to provide a detailed account of LFS weighting procedures so as to serve as a reference document, and to provide the rationale behind the particular methods employed. Included is a description of how the design weights are computed, how nonresponding households are treated, and how the generalized regression estimator is used to exploit demographic population estimates. A section devoted to the computation of sampling errors is provided, as is an appendix that describes the changes made to the estimation methodology between the present (1995) and previous (1985) sample designs"--Abstract.
