520 | 3 |a“Bulk drying requirements of the Industrial Minerals Milling Section, Mineral Processing Division, Mines Branch, EMR, Ottawa, Canada, range from a few pounds to several tons of varied mineral materials at varying moisture contents. Experiments were carried out with two drying devices to see if a simple process would prove capable of handling these requirements satisfactorily. A system employing infrared heaters, with a face area just equal to that of the bottom of a vibrating conveyor over which they were suspended, was found capable of removing an average of 13.6 pounds (6.2 kg) of water for an average feed rate of 275 pounds (124 kg). This required 313 kilowatts of power per ton of solids treated at an approximate cost of $7.80 per ton dried"--Abstract, p. i. |
