"The Canadian dairy industry is a multi-billion-dollar business in which most Canadians are involved—if not as producers or distributors, then as consumers of its wide range of products.1 It is also an industry with a tangible numismatic legacy in the form of tokens and tickets that were once used by customers to purchase dairy products. From the late nineteenth century through the 1960s and 1970s, dairy distributors across the country issued a wide array of paper, plastic, and metal tokens as monetary substitutes for advertising purposes and for customer convenience.
