“This publication describes a comprehensive set of Machinery and Equipment Price Indexes (MEPI) classified by purchasing industry and origin (domestic of imported). Published for the first time, these quarterly and annual indexes cover the period 1971 to 1979 and replace indexes published previously for construction machinery and equipment and for forestry machinery and equipment, as well as, unpublished indexes for a number of other industries and major industry groups. The result is a set of base-weighted price indexes with a 1971 time basis. Indexes by origin (domestic or imported) have been calculated by industry and for some commodities. Historical tables containing the annual capital stock base-weighted industry price indexes for machinery and equipment are reproduced for the period 1896 to 1979, on a 1971 time base”--Introd., p.
