“Monthly estimates of retail trade by geographical area, trade group and type of organization have been produced from the current monthly survey since January, 1972. The design of the monthly sample system provides the facility to revise the monthly estimates to account for late responses and changes in classifications of businesses (i.e., geographical area, trade group or organization type). Each month, preliminary estimates for the current month and revised estimates for the previous month are published. In the March issue of each year, estimates for all months of the previous year are finalized and include later responses, classification changes and revisions arising from sources outside this survey (i.e., Annual Chain and Department Store survey). This publication reproduces these annual revisions for the years 1972 to 1979 while at the same time incorporating further revisions and corrections, some of which have been previously made available on CANSIM without being published"--Introd., p.
