"This bulletin is the third in a series presenting detailed information on wholesale trade in Canada. The figures for sales by commodities were secured from the schedules returned for the Census of Merchandising and Service Establishments, 1931. Each wholesale firm was asked to furnish a breakdown of the sales during the year by major commodity lines and, further, by items under each major commodity. While every firm was not able to give a detailed record of sales by commodities, in most trades a very large proportion of the sales was reported by the major commodity groupings. The information in this bulletin relates only to these major commodity lines"--p. 1.
