"Experiments in Lake Erie during 1996 indicated that algae growth was limited by iron availability. This is important because the algae are usually thought to be limited by phosphorus. The phosphorus limitation phenomenon is so well accepted that fishing interests are beginning to suggest that waning fish production is a sign that phosphorus controls under the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement went too far"--Management perspective.
