520 |a“The National Accounts, income and Expenditure represented an important advance in Canadian economic statistics by presenting the measurement of the nation's output during a period of time in the form of a set of balancing accounts. This procedure, which is analogous to the practice of businessmen in setting up their statements in the form of balancing accounts, was extended to include separate revenue and expenditure accounts for broad sectors of the economy: persons, governments, and business. This study of the inter-industry flow of goods and services (input-output table) is an application of the same technique to the study of the disposition of output of industries and of the origin of the materials and services used in producing that output. The main emphasis of the table is on transactions between industries; it will be shown, however, that the table may also be considered as an extension of the National Accounts. The table may be used to assist in studying the effect of changes in various components of gross national expenditure upon industrial output and upon the industrial distribution of national income or the effect of changes in prices and other variables affecting industrial output"--Introd., p.
