Classification of occupations : eighth census of Canada, 1941 / Dominion Bureau of Statistics, Department of Trade and Commerce. : CS12-506/1941E-PDF
“The Classification of Occupations prepared for use in the Eighth Census of Canada, 1941, and presented in this volume is based on the dual classification of the gainfully occupied population. According to this principle, every person 14 years of age and over will be classified separately as to occupation and as to industry. Application of the dual classification requires the clear distinction between a person's occupation and his industry and the separate enumeration of each. Occupation is personal to the individual, it is his particular contribution to the productive process. Hence the necessity for two separate classifications of the gainfully occupied in the population census. The one is known as the Classification of Occupations and is presented in the present volume. The other is known as the Classification of Industries and is given in a separate volume. The two are complementary and both are necessary to the statistical presentation of the capacities of the country's gainfully occupied population”--Introd., p. [5].
