5203 |a"Part One of the present report deals with the design and calibration of a rotating cylinder apparatus developed for quantitative measurements of the erosion resistance of stiff to hard cohesive sediments. The apparatus can be rotated at speeds up to 2400 rpm and the torque transmitted to the inner cylinder is measured by a digital torque sensor. Unlike several similar designs described in the literature, the new apparatus permits testing of both undisturbed and reconsolidated samples. Two independent calibrations were carried out to determine the relationship between the rotational speed and the torque measured, and essentially the same parabolic relationships.between the two parameters were obtained"--Abstract, p. i.
