"Pursuant to subsection 17(2) of the Pest Control Products Act, the Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) conducted a special review of pest control products containing sodium chlorate based on the European Commission Decision (European Commission, 2008a and 2008b) to prohibit the use of this active ingredient due to human health concerns (occupational mixer/loader/applicator exposure). The proposed special review decision was published for consultation in the Re-evaluation Note REV2017-17, Special Review of Sodium Chlorate: Proposed Decision for Consultation. It outlines the Agency’s proposed decision and the reasons for it. No comments were received during the consultation process. The PMRA, under the authority of the Pest Control Products Act, is confirming the current registration of pest control products containing sodium chlorate in Canada"--P. 1.
