"Dredging in the Great Lakes is undertaken mostly to maintain navigation, although sand and gravel are exploited to a limited extent. Until recently, most dredging activities used open-lake disposal, although the use of confined disposal in Lake Erie and in the Detroit River remain notable exceptions"--Abstract.
