"In view of the frequency with which hot-water systems in hospitals and other public buildings are found to harbour species of Legionella and the finding of these organisms in hot-water springs in the U.S., it was considered advisable to examine waters of Canadian hot springs for the presence of members of this genus. Three sites chosen for this study: Fairmont, Radium and Banff hot springs all yielded evidence of Legionella, two by culture and one by direct fluorescent antibody technique. The evidence presented should alert the appropriate. professionals to consider hot springs as potential sources of Legionella"--Abstract.
