Priorities of Canadian stakeholders having an interest in bilateral and trilateral trade in North America, between Canada, the United States and Mexico / Hon. Mark Eyking, chair. : XC75-1/1-421-8E-PDF
"Since January 2017, the United States has made various trade-related decisions that affect Canada, including in relation to NAFTA, the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and bilateral trade in softwood lumber. Recognizing the potential for significant changes to North America’s trade relationships, on 16 February 2017, the House of Commons Standing Committee on International Trade (the Committee) adopted a motion to undertake a study on the priorities of Canadian stakeholders having an interest in bilateral and trilateral trade in North America. The report begins with statistical information about North American trade and investment, as well as general comments by witnesses about the North American trade relationship and raising Americans’ awareness about the importance of the Canada–U.S. trade relationship. It then summarizes the points made by individuals and groups with whom the Committee met in Ottawa and various U.S. cities on the following topics: negotiating free trade agreements (FTAs) and consulting Canadians; providing access to markets; moving goods, services and people; settling disputes; and expanding the scope of NAFTA. The report concludes with the Committee’s final thoughts and its recommendations to the Government of Canada"--P. 12.
