Recovery strategy for the pygmy short-horned lizard (Phrynosoma douglasii) in Canada . : En3-4/281-2017E-PDF
"The Pygmy Short-horned Lizard (Phrynosoma douglasii) is a small (4-6 cm long), round, flat-bodied lizard with small horns (spiny scales) on its head and along its body. In Canada, confirmed occurrences include only two specimens collected by one observer, and two additional reliable sightings from south-central British Columbia, in the Okanagan Valley, near the town of Osoyoos. The Pygmy Short-horned Lizard was designated as Extirpated by the Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada (COSEWIC) in 1992 and was listed as Extirpated in Canada on Schedule 1 of the federal Species at Risk Act in 2003. Recovery in Canada is not considered to be biologically and technically feasible at this time. Recovery feasibility may be revisited if relict populations are discovered, and/or if translocation and reintroduction of Pygmy Short-horned Lizard from external sources in the U.S.A. becomes feasible and appropriate”--Executive summary, p. iii.
