5200 |a"Analytical methodology for the measurement of polychlorinated dioxins and furans at ultratrace levels in environmental samples is extremely challenging. This paper describes methods research and development carrried out at the National Water Research Institute and the National Water Quality Laboratory since 1979. Methodologies for the extraction, clean-up, analysis and confirmation of chlorinated dioxins and furans in biota (fish, clams, gull eggs, clams), sediment, fly ash and water have been developed by NWRI and validated by the NWQL. As a result this investigation, the NWQL now has the capability for dioxin and furan analysis. This work has been part of the Water Quality Chemical Methods Development project of NWRI and is a good example of the benefits to be derived from joint NWQL/WQB studies"--Management perspective.
