"This booklet provides both the public and health professionals with an overview of the patterns of cardiovascular disease in Canada. It outlines the pattern of incidence, mortality, disability and the use of the health care system due to this disease, and will examine its economic impact. A discussion of risk factor distribution in Canada will illustrate the scope for cardiovascular disease prevention. This edition includes a focus on the pattern of cardiovascular disease in the Americas, which was authored by Eric Nicholls of the Pan American Health Organization. This publication is sponsored by the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada and developed collaboratively by Health and Welfare Canada, Statistics Canada, and the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan Epidemiology Unit at the University of Saskatchewan. It is the second of a regular series that will examine trends of cardiovascular disease in Canada"--Introd., p. 1.
