"Natural areas are important components of the environment. At the landscape scale, the size and spatial configuration of these vegetated areas are well established indicators of their well-being. Over time, natural areas expand and contract in response to human land use activities, usually in an incremental manner. These processes of cumulative change, especially over longer time frames, are poorly understood. There is an opportunity to apply emerging frameworks and methodologies for cumulative effects assessment to the issue of natural area changes. The purpose of this report is to document cumulative effects of land use activities on natural areas in a region of southern Ontario. ..."--Abstract, p. v.
