"This inventory has been assembled in two categories: the first being a chronological listing assembled as pre-Confederation and Federal and the second assembling the Orders in Council by reserve, band or other heading. The Orders in Council pertaining to reserves and bands were firstly identified by reference to the department’s Reserve General registers and Crown Land registers. The pre-Confederation Orders in Council have largely been identified by reference to the National Archives RG 10 records found in Volume 119, Reels C-11479 and C- 11480. A thorough review has been made of National Archive’s Orders in Council indexes for the years 1867 to 1985 which is the latest year available. Where applicable, additional information has been included thus augmenting the information base"--p. [i].
