"As part of the International Polar Year, a series of 69 permanent monitoring plots was established in forests and permafrost-affected peatlands in the Mackenzie Valley region of Canada’s Northwest Territories. Extending from the Mid-Boreal, through the High Boreal, Low Subarctic and High Subarctic Ecoclimatic Regions, this network provides opportunities to examine the effects of changing climatic conditions across both current climatic and local topographic gradients. This report, the first in a series of three, provides basic site information including detailed plot locations and general descriptions. Maps of each site, based on aerial photography or satellite imagery, show the relationships between plots, with surrounding geographical features and general plant community types. The purpose of this report is to document the sites to aid in interpretation of data collected and to enable future researchers to precisely relocate these plots for remeasurement purposes"--Abstract, p. iii.
