"This paper examines transformations of gender, race and class relations among the Mohawks of Québec in the light of their historical experiences. First the social, political and economic structures (& organisation) of the precolonial situation of the Five Nations (The Iroquois confederation) are dilineated. The effects of the missionary activities, rivalries among the British and French, and of other historical events on the socio-economic and political structures (and organisation) of the Five Nations are examined, focussing on the effects of these historical experiences on gender and class relations among the Mohawk nation"--Abstract, p. 1.
