"The documentation of program listings and program outputs for reports and publications is a tedious and time consuming procedure subject to errors. It is best done automatically using the files and the facilities of the computer itself. Computer files, however, are generally stored as continuous streams of information. Printing of these files at terminals produces continuous and unstructured listings, which are very laborious to read"--Abstract.
